After a classic maturation of at least 21 years in traditional American oak barrels, this whisky gets its final maturation in rare Portuguese oak barrels in which Tawny Port wine was previously stored at least 30 years old. These barrels are also referred to as pipes.

This luxury whisky was introduced in 2013 to mark Queen Elizabeth II's Diamond Jubilee and the 60th anniversary of Royal Salute, and is therefore presented as a truly noble blend.
The blend of malt and grain Scotch whiskies is packaged in a hand-engraved porcelain bottle in sapphire blue, one of the colours of the royal crown jewels.

The Chivas brothers, John and James, wanted to create something unique and elegant, something that was different from anything that had existed before. It was not without reason that they became Queen Victoria's purveyors to the royal household in 1843.
