Two climates, two barrels, two cultures: Dos Maderas not only combines the best of two maturation methods on opposite sides of the globe, but also brings two cultures together. On one side is the rum heritage of Barbados and Guyana in the Caribbean, on the other hand the rich sherry tradition of Jerez in Spain, and specifically that of the historic Bodega Williams & Humbert - one of the most prestigious wine and spirits manufacturers in the world. After the first ripening in the tropics, these extraordinary rums are transported to Spain and refined with another maturation in sherry barrels.
The classic: selected rums from Barbados and Guyana mature for 5 years in American oak barrels in the Caribbean. Then this blend is transported to Andalusian Jerez to store in the Sherry House Williams & Humbert for another 3 years after the Solera process in high-quality Palo Cortado barrels. In the final phase of the maturation process, Dos Maderas stores 5+5 another 2 years in the solera process in the barrels of the "Don Guido" - a 20 year old Pedro Ximénez sherry (V.O.S.). Its triple aging makes the Dos Maderas 5+5 unique, with a bouquet of incomparable taste and aroma.
Serving suggestion: the extra ripening time in Pedro Ximénez barrels gives this rum a sweet fullness that is best enjoyed pure and can be wonderfully combined with cigars and chocolate. The same character also makes it ideal for classic rum cocktails. Cocktail recipes are available below for browsing.
Ripe, full-bodied yet soft, this fascinating rum has a dark amber colour and initially offers notes of figs and raisins that result in rich, ripe fruit notes in taste. This is accompanied by tropical spices and sherry notes, accompanied by smoky oak and a hint of tobacco leaves.
Experience to taste: Williams & Humbert, this sherry bodega was founded in 1877 and is now run by the Medina family, who have been in the wine business since the 1960s. The spirit of innovation contributed to the idea of Dos Maderas production - because it was the family's goal to incorporate more than 140 years of experience and expertise in sherry wine production into a spirit product.
