Originally, European spelling was also common in Scotland, but to differentiate themselves more from the Scottish whiskies and because the Irish living in the US were big buyers, Irish distilleries began to add an "e". McConnell's does not use this "marketing trick" and looks back on its 125 year history and remains true to the traditional spelling!
